About the Natural Species Being Replicated

Halophila stipulacea is a marine seagrass naturally found from the Persian Gulf and Red Sea south along the eastern coast of Africa to Mozambique, as well as around Madagascar and islands of the western Indian Ocean. It has also been reported in waters near eastern India.

In nature, Halophila stipulacea can form dense seagrass stands and is capable of growing across a variety of coastal substrates and environmental conditions. Its relatively rapid growth allows it to recolonize areas following disturbance.

The species has also spread beyond its native range and has become established as an invasive seagrass in portions of the Mediterranean and Caribbean.

Natural Halophila stipulacea provides habitat within seagrass ecosystems and is an important food source for marine animals, including dugongs in the Indian Ocean and green sea turtles throughout portions of its range.

About the Pangea America Replica

The Pangea America Halophila stipulacea product is an artificial, synthetic habitat replica designed to recreate the clustered growth and appearance of natural Halophila seagrass.

Available as a 20-blade rhizome configuration or a 5-blade single-disk configuration, the replica can be used individually or in groups to create realistic seagrass beds for aquariums, zoological exhibits, museums, themed environments, and other aquatic displays without the requirements associated with living or preserved seagrass.

Please Note: Scientific names, common names, distribution information, natural-history descriptions, and biological characteristics on this page describe the natural species being replicated. They do not indicate that the product itself is natural or biological material.
